Special Issue: 10th Anniversary of the Umbrella and Sunflower Movement

As the 10th anniversary of the Sunflower Movement in Taiwan and the Umbrella Movement in Hong Kong approached, the Hong Kong Studies Hub of the University of Surrey, and the Taiwan Research Hub of the University of Nottingham co-organised a workshop on "Revisiting the Legacy of Taiwan's Sunflower Movement and Hong Kong's Umbrella Movement", taking place at both the University of Surrey and the University of Nottingham. 

As part of the jointly organised workshop, Dr Chun-Yi Lee, Dr Malte Kaeding, and Dr Desmond Sham wrote three pieces, reflecting on the legacy of those pivotal events 10 years ago. The three articles are:

1. A Decade Later: What is the Lasting Impact of the Sunflower and Umbrella Movements on Political Activism by Dr Chun-Yi Lee

2. Searching for Identity: Context and Legacy of the Hong Kong Umbrella Movement by Dr Malte Kaeding

3. The Coming of an Overseas Hong Konger Identity and Taiwan-Hong Kong Identity: Reflection on the Legacy of the Umbrella Movement by Dr Desmond Sham
